Tara Lynn, who works as the communications director for the SPCA of Wake County, remembers the heartbreaking moment: “They brought him to the shelter and requested for him to be euthanized. It was truly heartbreaking to see that he had made it all the way back to his family, only to receive such a response.”
Fortunately, the staff at the shelter could not bear to carry out such a devastating act. Their compassion and empathy shone through in this difficult situation.
Toby’s heartwarming tale deeply resonated with everyone who came across it. Despite being healthy, friendly, and full of life, Toby needed some extra help, so his caretakers decided to seek assistance from the SPCA of Wake County.
The SPCA responded promptly, ensuring that Toby received the necessary veterinary care to address his health concerns, including testing positive for FIV and battling an upper respiratory infection. Lynn, a member of the team, shared, “He was diagnosed with feline immunodeficiency virus and also had an upper respiratory infection. We treated the infection, and he slowly recovered.”
Toby’s journey towards a brighter future commenced at the SPCA, where he was showered with the love and medical attention he deserved. Despite his challenges, Toby’s sweet nature shone through. He quickly formed bonds with the staff and his fellow furry companions at the shelter.

Lynn shared with pride how Michele made a spontaneous decision to drop everything and immediately rush to the shelter for Toby. According to Lynn, Michele didn’t think twice about it and left her job site to come to the shelter.
Now, Toby is living a happy and healthy life with two human parents and two feline pals. His new owner, Michele, couldn’t be more delighted to have him by her side.
Describing Toby, Michele says he is incredibly sweet, cuddly, and loving. He has quickly made himself at home, taking over their bed and even finding a cozy spot under their pillows.
